MAIN CAMPUS: THE OCCUPIED TOWN
Historic Camden Revolutionary War Park, 222 Broad Street, Camden, South Carolina 29020

KERSHAW CORNWALLIS HOUSE
Because of its strategic location and commercial prominence, Camden played a significant role in the Revolutionary War. This meticulously reconstructed Georgian style mansion replicates the home that once served as headquarters for the British during their occupation of Camden from June 1780 to May 1781, originally built by Camden founder Joseph Kershaw in 1777.
THE REDOUBT
The British army established the main garrison surrounded by five redoubts in 1780. Visit one of these significant defensive redoubt structures restored by Historic Camden to full military specifications. Included in the restoration are the blockhouse, gun powder magazine, and the barbette or raised artillery platform.

THE GUNPOWDER MAGAZINE
Constructed under the funding and supervision of Joseph Kershaw in 1777, the gunpowder magazine was commandeered by General Cornwallis on August 1, 1780. It was later destroyed by Lord Rawdon shortly after the Battle of Hobkirk Hill and the British evacuation of Camden.
BLACK GUNPOWDER DEMONSTRATIONS Take part in a hands-on artillery demonstration and live firing of our cannon and musket. Hear the history and logistics involved in the maintenance, transport, and targeting tactics of this early weaponry.
