The Southeast Redoubt is the focus of a two phase restoration project. Phase one has been completed, consisting of clearing the area, reinforcing the interior walls, placing abatises, and constructing firing steps for cannon placement. Phase two will consist of the construction of a blockhouse, which will house an artillery exhibit.
In 2018 restoration of the Southeast redoubt was started and phase I was completed. Phase II was interrupted by COVID but we are now ready to start fortifying the entrance and building the blockhouse.
Blockhouse (Coming Soon)
A blockhouse is a structure that was found within fortifications such as a redoubt. A blockhouse served as barracks for troops. And if overrun by enemy troops as the citadel for their last stand against the incoming forces.
Artillery Exhibit (Coming Soon)
The blockhouse when completed will house an artillery and ballistic exhibition about Revolutionary period weaponry.
